Matlock Band was crowned Midlands Third section champions at the recent Area brass band competition in Bedworth.
Playing draw number 10 in a field of 17 bands, Matlock were placed first by adjudicators Malcolm Brownbill and David Lancaster and awarded 184 points, two points clear of second placed Wellington (Telford) and University of Warwick taking third with 180. The result was the bands eighth competition win under Musical Director Roger Jepson and now sees the band off to Harrogate in September for the National finals as well as promoted to the second section in January 2009. |

Members of the band were involved in a tidy up of the bandroom to try and clean up the building and tend to urgent repairs. Good weather helped progress and the day was deemed successful by all. Another day of work is to be undertaken in the near future. |
